How to Apply
For commercial
activities you may print out a Special Use Permit
Application (pdf) from this link.
Is there a fee?
- Administrative fees: Permits issued for commercial uses are subject to a $100.00 permit processing fee which must accompany the application.
- Use fees charged in addition to administrative fees: Listed below are examples of circumstances under which additional fees are charged. Since these fees may vary in different areas of the State or may change from year to year, please contact the refuge for current information.
- Commercial Visitor Services – Commercial guides, outfitters and transporters will be charged a fee for client use of the refuge. Fees are based on client use days (one calendar day for each client using the refuge during a 24 hour period), and the amount of the fee varies depending on the activity. These fees are adjusted every three years based on the Department of Commerce Implicit Price Deflator Index.
- Material fees for sand, gravel, and rock are charged per cubic yard of material used and may vary by type of material and Region in Alaska.
- Use and occupancy of Refuge lands - Rental fees are charged for structures, facilities, or equipment occupying Refuge land.
How do I pay the fees?
Administrative fees and reserved site rental fees may be paid by either check or major credit card, but client use day fees must be paid by check. Make checks payable to U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Please review the notice (pdf) regarding our Paper Check Conversion Program. If you wish to pay your permit processing fees by credit card, note this on your application and you will be contacted by refuge staff to process the payment.
