Travel Tips
What to Bring / What to Wear
Keep
Warm and Dry
Dont
forget your camera, binoculars, and bird book!
Think LAYERS
Coastal
weather is nearly always cool and can be quite windy, wet, and cold, even in summer.
Most Important
Water-resistant rain jacket, rain pants and waterproof
boots are a must. Underneath those, avoid cotton because it loses its insulating
value when damp or wet. Fleece is superior in its ability to keep you warm even
if damp, and it dries quickly.
On or Near Water
If you are
on or near water, hats and gloves are a necessity.
High Latitude
Sun (sometimes!)
Sunscreen (even for those cloudy days at this high
latitude) and a sun hat are important.
Spring, Fall, Winter
During
spring, fall and winter, extra sweaters, a very warm coat, hat, gloves, warm boots,
and long underwear are advisable.
Happy Trip = Warm + Dry
Alaskas
maritime weather can be unpredictable, so be prepared for the worst and appreciate
any sunny day!
